Catwalk National Recreation Trail

Address:  Gila NM
Directions: 5 miles from Glenwood, NM, at the end of the NM Highway 174 (Catwalk Road).

The Catwalk National Recreation Trail owes its existence to the decades-old mining industry of Glenwood, New Mexico.  Originally built to aid maintenance on water lines, the Catwalk has become a favorite spot for summertime picnickers escaping the heat of southern New Mexico.  While most visitors are day-hikers, the Catwalk is also a great starting point for more challenging hikes (limited only by the imagination and physical wherewithal of the participants).  Children will enjoy the scenery, but the adults should keep an eye out for wildlife (rattlesnakes are not terribly uncommon).

Park personnel have, unfortunately, been victims to budget cuts. Please help maintain our national assets by packing out any refuse you might encounter.
