Cattleman's Steak House
3375 Bataan Memorial W
Driving into Las Cruces on U.S. 70 East, the first restaurant you see is Cattleman's. The place is very neatly decorated with all western murals. As you walk in, you will see that there are two sides to the establishment. On the right is a full-service bar with a dozen or so tables. On the left is a Western theme dining room. We have eaten here a couple of times in the past. On St. Patricks Day a couple of years ago, the only thing on the menu was Corned Beef and Cabbage. That was good, but we come here for the steaks.
We went in to the bar side this time (which felt a little strange, having a 2nd grader in a bar during happy hour). We started off with the Buffalo Wing appetizer and salad. The wings were pretty good. We had ordered the Prime Rib (medium rare) and a New York steak (medium well), which came as ordered. I think that was the best prime rib I have had so far in this town (though I should have asked for raw horseradish, rather than creamed). The New York steak was also very good.
It was a busy night, so the service was a bit slower than I'd have liked. Also, once the crowd got too big, they opened up the dining room side. I almost wished we had come in later just to get in on that side. I find TV during dinner distracting. I can get past that, as this is probably the best place in town for a perfect steak.
