2190 Avenida De Mesilla
Located in the Old Mesilla, El Comedor Resturant offers New Mexican food to tourist and locals.
The layout of El Comedor suggests that the building had been a house in the not-too-distant past. On a Saturday afternoon, they seemed to be doing a brisk business. We decided to try as much as we could, so we ordered a couple of combination plates. The chips were served with a fresh pico de gallo that some might find a little spicy. My second-grader was able to take a few bites before claiming that it tasted weird. I thought it was great.
The tacos and gorditas were interesting. Rather than just meat, the filling included potatoes. That made them filling, but not as rich as a regular taco, which is nice. The green chile stew was excellent. It was among the best we've had. I would definitely recommend that dish. My son had the chicken strips, which he polished off rather quickly.
This would be a nice place to stop off after spending the morning poking around Old Mesilla. They serve wine and bottled beer.
